In recent days, both the presidential candidate and her campaign team have presented specific proposals aimed at guaranteeing a better quality of life for the people of Chile. Furthermore, commitments have been made to achieve growth that benefits every household, with fair employment, living wages, and genuine opportunities; enhanced security with modern technology at the borders; and timely healthcare with fairly priced medicines.

[“El Siglo”, Santiago] Well-defined proposals from presidential candidate Jeannette Jara are now public.
These include an $800 million US dollar investment to strengthen public security, an increase in the monthly stipend for carers from 30,000 to 160,000 pesos, continuing the democratic debate on the decriminalisation of pregnancy termination up to 14 weeks, restricting the use of the UF (Unidad de Fomento, an inflation-indexed unit) in areas such as rent charges, reducing electricity bills by 20% for a large section of the population, and ending council tax payments for over 200,000 elderly people.
These measures have been highlighted in recent days by the presidential campaign and by the candidate herself.
On healthcare issues, Jara stated that the prices of medicines will be regulated. This aims to prevent excessive costs for drugs that are often beyond the means of the elderly. In addition to this measure, a national cancer strategy will be implemented, featuring 10 specialised centres throughout Chile.
Mental health services will also receive greater coverage. In a world where this issue is becoming increasingly evident, Jara has her own proposal: A Comprehensive Mental Health Plan with strengthened support networks, increased care and home-based support.
Regarding urban infrastructure, Jeannette Jara proposes the regeneration of 50 neighbourhoods through “master plans that transform community life.”
It was also announced that work will be done to facilitate access to homeownership via a programme called the “massive mortgage” (hipotecazo), aimed at people up to the age of 40, enabling them to acquire their first home with an “affordable” monthly repayment.
Many of these proposals were presented this past weekend by members of Jara’s campaign team. It was stated that 180 experts have worked on these policy proposals, and that the input of 4,000 citizens was considered.
Overall, the campaign has reiterated its commitment to achieving growth that reaches every household, with fair jobs, living wages, and real opportunities; greater security with modern technology at the borders; and timely healthcare with fairly priced medicines.
