Following a meeting at her home this Thursday with the standard-bearer for progressivism and the centre-left, Jeannette Jara, former President Michelle Bachelet praised her, stating: “Throughout my public life, I have worked with people who are committed to the country and have a deep sense of public service. Jeannette Jara is one of them: a serious, responsible woman dedicated to public policies that impact the lives of families.” The presidential candidate said the former president “was generous enough to share her experience and vision” and stated that she was proud to “be able to speak with a woman who has shaped the history of our country, a leader not only nationally, but also globally, and who has paved the way for so many of us.”

[El Siglo, Santiago] Former President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, stated that “Chile is living through an important moment” and that “the fundamental thing is for it to move forward with dialogue, stability, and institutional respect,” after meeting this Thursday morning at her home with the standard-bearer of the “Unidad por Chile” pact, Jeannette Jara, as a show of support for her candidacy.
According to sources from the former head of state’s office, the two met for breakfast between 6:30 and 7:15 am, as the presidential candidate was due to participate at 8:30 am in the “First Social Forum” held at the Radio Cooperativa studios, which was also attended by José Antonio Kast.
It should be noted that this meeting comes four days after former President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle received the Republican Party candidate, José Antonio Kast, at his residence—a meeting which provoked various criticisms from the ruling coalition, but especially from the Christian Democratic Party, the former president’s own party, which had already declared its support for the former Minister of Labour from Gabriel Boric’s government.
In a public statement made in the afternoon, through a signed letter, Michelle Bachelet stated that throughout her public life she has worked with people committed to the country and with a deep sense of service. “Jeannette Jara is one of them: a serious, responsible woman dedicated to public policies that impact the lives of families,” she thought.
Furthermore, she noted that “Chile is living through an important moment.” “In every electoral process, I have believed that the essential thing is to strengthen our democracy: to participate, to inform oneself, and to listen with respect,” and “beyond the differences inherent in any contest, the fundamental thing is that Chile moves forward with dialogue, stability, and institutional respect.”
The former president’s message closes by inviting citizens “to participate, to inform themselves, and to care for our democracy, which has always been our greatest asset.”
“It is a pride to be able to talk and share experiences”
Meanwhile, Jeannette Jara, after meeting with Michelle Bachelet, commented that they spoke “about the future of Chile and the rights won through hard work by women,” highlighting that the former president “was generous enough to share her experience and vision.”
“For me, it is a pride to be able to speak with a woman who has shaped the history of our country, a leader not only nationally, but also globally, and who has paved the way for so many of us. I am very grateful to her,” expressed the candidate, indicating that “we continue to move forward, together, for a Chile that cares, that respects, and that does not go backwards.”
